Upfest Bristol 2015 - Europe's largest Street Art & Graffiti festival

29 July 2015

'Warld', large mural on the theme of war, is a work created by the Sardinian graffiti artist Manu Invisible at the Bristol UpFest street art festival.

The graffiti, painted on a brick wall of 2.5 meters in height by 8 metres long, depicts the planet Earth from outer space: the Earth is imploding in on itself towards its core along with all inhabitants on its surface during the collapse. The implosion is a metaphor for war and casualties caused by the conflict. The title 'Warld' is a play on the words combining 'War' and 'world'. It was painted on Greville Road, next to the 'Hen & Chicken', a very popular pub and nightlife venue on Bristol's North Street.

Manu Invisible is the first graffiti writer from Sardinia to attend the English event as a guest of the festival: his experimental approach and multifaceted art, unique use of light and color and unmistakable style convinced the organizers to invite him.

Manu Invisible has created work in a growing number of places around Europe: Sardinia, Spain, Milan, Berlin, Bratislava. In Milan, he worked on the creation of a large mural in Piazza delle Donne Partisan resistance to the initiative in collaboration with the municipal administration.

The name of the artist is also known for the positive outcome of a court case: accused of vandalism, he was acquitted by the court in Milan because his illegal graffiti in the street was considered a work of art by the judge. Recently in Cagliari he painted the facade of the  'Foscolo' school in collaboration with the school board and the municipality of Cagliari.

'UpFest' Bristol is the largest festival of graffiti in Europe: started in 2008 from an idea by Stephen Hayles, the event is a showcase for many artists and notably for Banksy, the acclaimed street artist of world renown who comes from the city, he made his debut with his first works around Bristol.
UpFest hosted some 250 writers and illustrators from 25 countries in 2015, the only two Italian (besides Manu Invisible was Turin based Fabio Petani) during the three days (25 and 26
